Troopers from the 44th Infantry Battalion, together with
elements of the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office, have arrested two
members of a lawless group during operations in Naga town, Zamboanga Sibugay
early morning Friday.
Reports forwarded by Lt. Col. Audie Mongao, 1st Infantry
Division spokesperson, said the operation took place at 3:45 a.m. at Purok 7,
Sitio Looc, Barangay Kaliantana, Naga.
Arrested were Reme Sabtal, leader of the so-called Sabtal
Group, a notorious criminal group in the area, and one Ronie Sabtal.
Seized from their possession were one M-1 Garand carbine, a
KG-9 sub-machine gun, five rifle grenades, one hand grenade, three M-16
magazines, 16 5.56mm rounds, six M-1 Garand clips with 35 rounds, two KG-9 magazines
containing four rounds, five pumpboats, assorted military uniforms and illegal
drug paraphernalias.
"Investigation and pursuit operations against other
members of the group is still ongoing," Mongao said.
