Four members of an "armed lawless group" (ALG)
were wounded during a clash with troopers of the 1st Mechanized Infantry
Brigade and 4th Scout Ranger Battalion in Maguindanao Friday morning.
The incident took place at 5:45 a.m. at Barangay Lower
Katibpuan, Talayan town, said 6th Infantry Division public affairs office chief
Capt. Jo-ann Petinglay.
She added that the soldiers were conducting patrol
operations in the area after civilians reported the presence of an undetermined
number of ALGs in the area since Thursday night.
"Intermittent fighting ensued as the ALG withdrew to
different directions. The firefight subsided after about an hour,"
Petinglay stressed.
In the fighting, four brigands were reported wounded with no
losses to the government side.
Meanwhile, 6th Infantry Division commander Major Gen.
Edmundo R. Pangilinan said the growing awareness of the community on enemy
presence had greatly limited the sphere of movement of these lawless group.
"The positive response of the community will definitely
disallow the lawless group from freely conducting atrocities in the area,"
he added.
