In line with its efforts to boost the number of its
operational naval assets, the Philippine Navy (PN) announced that it has
committed the sum of Php36,782,946.31 for the structural repairs and
dry-docking of the BRP Miguel Malvar (PS-19), one of the oldest corvettes in
its service.
Winning bidders are required to complete the repairs within
100 calendar days.
BRP Miguel Malvar is the lead ship of the Miguel Malvar
class of corvettes of the PN.
She was originally built as USS PCE(R)-852, a
PCE(R)-848-class rescue patrol craft escort for the United States Navy during
World War II.
She was acquired by the PN in April 1976 and later on
commissioned as the BRP Miguel Malvar.
