While stressing that it will continue to carry out its
mandate of defending the nation and its people without fail, the Armed Forces
of the Philippines (AFP) announced that it will continue to do this function
consistent with the International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.
"While carrying out its mandates of protecting the
people and the state, the AFP will continuously uphold the rule of law,
promotion of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and advocate Human Rights
protection at all levels of command," AFP public affairs office chief Lt.
Col. Harold Cabunoc said.
"Human rights protection is integrated in our military
training such as pre-entry training and these are also included in the training
modules for career courses," he added.
Cabunoc stressed that military commanders are always
strictly reminded of their responsibility of protecting the rights of the
people as they perform their mandated tasks.
"(AFP chief-of-staff) Gen. Gregorio Catapang Jr. has
put human rights protection in our slogan: Kawal Displinado. Bawal Abusado.
Dapat Asintado," he pointed out.
