Members of the revolutionary health group Makabayang Samahang Pangkalusugan (MSP) held a lightning rally in Manila on Tuesday, Dec. 16 on its 36th anniversary.

It was also an early commemoration of the Communist Party of the Philippines’ 46th year on Dec. 26. The revolutionary group condemned the situation of health and the society under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III.

“The existing rotten system of health in the country is only a result of a semi-colonial and semi-feudal system in our society.”

They vowed to mobilize more health workers to serve the people and to revolt with a socialist perspective.

They encourage health workers, nurses and doctors to join the New People’s Army.

  1. The conduct of a "lightning rally" to celebrate the organization's anniversary appears to be annual event for the MSP.

The Makabayang Samahang Pangkalusugan (MSP-People's Health Organization) is an underground organization purportedly made up health workers that is affiliated with the clandestine National Democratic Front (NDF), the political wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP). MSP is one of about 16 underground organizations that comprise the membership of the NDF.

The MSP's counterpart above ground legal front is the Health Alliance for Democracy (HEAD). HEAD is a member of the main legal CPP multisectoral umbrella front organization the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN-New Patriotic Alliance). Another legal CPP-front, the Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) also has close ties to the BAYAN.

The "lightning rally" is a propaganda technique where members of a clandestine group prearrange a date/time/ location to assemble to conduct a rally or anti-government protest action. These protests usually last only 10-15 minutes and members disperse before local police have time to react. It's sort of like a propaganda flash-mob. Organizers usually notify trusted contacts in the media to insure photos are taken of the event. CPP-related lightning rally photos often appear in the Philippine media.
