ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY – A group of unidentified armed men on a motorized boat sprayed a southern Philippine village with rounds of gunfire from automatic weapons, but there were no reports of casualties, police said Friday.

Police said the attack occurred on the night of December 25 in the village of Camanga in the town of Malangas in Zamboanga Sibugay province.

It said an army soldier phoned the police to report the strafing. The motive of the attack is still unknown, according to the police.

Police alerted its forces in the town to prevent a similar attack from occurring again. No individual or group claimed responsibility for the shooting.
