To improve its medium range gun and direct fire support
capabilities, the Philippine Navy (PN) announced that its Marine units will be
getting 40mm automatic grenade launchers by first quarter of 2015.
Navy vice commander Rear Admiral Caesar Taccad said that the
weapon is capable of firing "NATO" standard 40mm high velocity
grenades.
"This will be used by the Marines as a medium range and
direct fire support to maneuvering infantry (units) for enhanced firepower,"
he added.
Taccad said that the weapon is an "air-cooled, blow
back, and belt operated heavy machine gun".
