The Community Halal Producers Cooperative (CHaPC) and the Tuladan Development Center Incorporated (TDCI) held a Community Peace Forum on Bangsamoro Basic Law on November 14, 2014 at the Laguialaot Compound, Kayaga, Kabacan, North Cotabato.
About 200 Moro and non-Moros from different communities of Kabacan, Carmen, Matalam, Makilala in North Cotabato and Datu Montawal in Maguindanao province attended the program. The peace forum was a venue for community residents to hear and understands the BBL directly from the mouth of the invited speakers.
Among the invited resource persons were Prof. Esmael Abdula, Arman Armada, and Nash Pulindao from the Committee on Information. Representatives from the academe, business sector and local leaders also graced the occasion. The speakers explained the current status of BBL and interacted with the participants in local dialect to be able to understand clearly the presentation. A bill on the BBL has been filed in both Chambers of Congress. Consultations with various stakeholders are underway.
Having been satisfied with the presentations and discussions by the speakers, the participants suggested that another peace forum in the community areas where majority are Christians and Lumads be held.
Mr. Armada handed over a copy of the BBL to the program organizers for reproduction so it can be distributed to other residents. The team encouraged all sectors to work hand in hand for the attainment of peace and progress in the Bangsamoro Region.
The program was realized through the collective efforts of organizers and community residents and the working committees of North Cotabato Provincial Committee headed by Datu Sambuto Pedtamanan.
