Government troops captured what the military called an improvised explosive device “factory” of the Abu Sayyaf in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan late Monday night.


Colonel Rolando Bautista, commander of the 104th Infantry Brigade, said the capture of the facility in Barangay Baguindan by ground troops was preceded by mortar shelling that triggered “sympathetic explosions” of assembled bombs.


Bautista also said they were still verifying casualties among Abu Sayyaf fighters who were at the camp at the time of the assault.
