At least five members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) were killed during a firefight with government troops before noon Monday in Sumisip, Basilan, according to Capt. Rowena Muyuela, spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command.

She said the firefight happened at 11:10 a.m. after operating troops with some members of the Civilian Volunteers Organization stumbled into the bandits' camp.

After the firefight, the bandits scampered to different directions and left behind the fatalities.

Muyuela said the captured camp had 10 nipa huts with fortified trenches and foxholes.

A homemade shotgun with two ammunitions, 40-millimeter high explosive devise ammunition, solar charger, wet cell battery, and subversive documents were found in the ASG camp.

"The camp can accommidate more than 50 people. No reported casualty on government side," Muyuela said.
