In another encounter with rebel forces in Abra Friday, four people, two of them New People's Army (NPA) fighters, were killed while three others were wounded.
One rebel was also captured in the clash that took place 9: 35 p.m. in Poblacion, Lacub town, Abra, 5th Infantry Division spokesperson Major Calixto Cadano said Saturday.
The soldiers along with the civilians were transporting the body of slain rebel, killed in the earlier Sept. 4 encounter, when fired upon by the NPAs.
A civilian identified as Noel Viste of Poblacion, Lacub town, was killed while return fire from government forces resulted in the death of two rebels.
Killed in action was Pfc. John Kevin Manuel and wounded in the encounter were Cpl. Gilbert Ba-awa and Pfcs. James Ericson Danao and Randy Sayaan.
All of the government casualties are from the 41st Infantry Battalion.
Recovered from the encounter scene were the two dead rebels and two firearms.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing as of this posting.
