Landmine attack

From the Mindanao Newbits section of the Manila Bulletin (Aug 23): Landmine attack

Camp Bancasi, Butuan City – Members of the 52nd Engineering Brigade (EB) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) escaped unscathed from a landmine attack perpetrated by the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels at the Malandong Can-ayan area in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

Maj. Christian C. Uy, regional Army spokesman, said the engineering troops of the 52nd EB were transporting sand and gravel when residents reported the planted landmine along the side of the road.

The troops are constructing housing units in the area in line with the AFP’s “Kawal Kalinga” program. “It’s good that no one was hurt or killed when the landmine exploded,” said Uy.
