Soldiers repel rebel force in Zamboanga del Sur clash

From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 29): Soldiers repel rebel force in Zamboanga del Sur clash

A New People's Army (NPA) force suffered an undetermined number of casualties during an encounter with troopers of the 14th Division Reconnaissance Company in Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur Monday afternoon.

The engagement took place at 3 p.m. at the vicinity of Sitio Camansi, Barangay New Tuburan, Tigbao town, 1st Infantry Division spokesperson Capt. Franco Suelto said.

The firefight with the undetermined number of NPA fighters lasted for 30 minutes. There was no casualty on the government side.

Suelto said the rebel force quickly retreated after sustaining an undetermined number of casualties.

He also said that NPA forces are constantly on the run in Zamboanga del Sur due to massive deployment of "Bayanihan" teams and relentless military pursuit operations.

“The NPA rebels are now tired and facing hardship on continuous evasion of military troops. They go near populated areas so they can easily blend with the civilians, buy foods and sow fear and terror to the people. It is unfortunate and sad that the NPA continues to take arms against the legitimate government just to pursue an irrelevant ideology,” Suelto said.
