ARMM police: Abu Sayyafs behind Sulu ambush likely hooked on drugs

From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 29): ARMM police: Abu Sayyafs behind Sulu ambush likely hooked on drugs

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) police director Chief Supt. Noel Delos Reyes said he is inclined to believe the Abu Sayyaf brigands involved in the recent ambush on innocent civilians are hooked into drugs.

Delos Reyes issued the statement in an interview Tuesday citing that a person who is in his right mind will not shoot on a group of people that include women and children.

Delos Reyes said this as he disclosed that the youngest among the casualties is a nine-month old baby.

Delos Reyes said that “as of now” 23 people were killed while nine others were wounded in the ambush staged Monday by the Abu Sayyaf brigands in Talipao, Sulu.

Two of the 23 fatalities died Tuesday at a hospital in Zamboanga City.

“That is why I am inclined to believe they are into drugs,” Delos Reyes added.

He said they are saddened the ambush was staged in “one of the holiest moments in Islamic religion” citing the victims were on the way to the mosque purposely to pray as they are celebrating Eid’l Fitr.

The victims were among the 40 people aboard on two vehicles when the Abu Sayyaf brigands ambushed them in Barangay Lower Talipao, Talipao town.

Meanwhile, Delos Reyes disclosed that he augmented the police force of Talipao town to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the area.
