Soldier shot in Zamboanga City

From the Mindanao Examiner BlogSpot site (Jul 1): Soldier shot in Zamboanga City

A government soldier was wounded in a gun attack Tuesday in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said.

Police said the soldier, a member of the army’s Task Force Zamboanga, was driving his pick-up truck with his child as the lone passenger when an unidentified gunman attacked him in the village of Taluksangay. The child was unharmed and rescued by residents.

The soldier was identified only by his rank and name as Staff Sergeant Hassan. Police said the wounded soldier also lost control of the truck and rammed a house, destroying its facade.

The soldier managed to seek help from an army detachment and was brought to the hospital.

No individual claimed responsibility for the attack, but police launched an investigation into the shooting.
