The 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division, considered the Army’s premier unit, has a new commander, an official said.
Capt. Franco Suelto, Tabak Division’s Public Affairs officer-in-charge, said Maj. Gen. Felicito Virgilio Trinidad Jr. formally handed over his post to Brig. Gen. Gerry Barrientos in simple turnover rites Wednesday.
Suelto said Maj. Gen. Romulo Cabantac Jr., the acting Army commander, presided the turnover of command ceremony held in Camp Major Cesar Sang-an in Barangay Upper Pulacan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.
Key military officials and elected government officials attended the event.
Trinidad was designated last June 8 as the commander of the Northern Luzon Command.
Prior to his new assignment, Barrientos served as commander of the 102nd Infantry Brigade based in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay and as assistant division commander of the 4th Infantry Division based in Cagayan de Oro City.
The 102nd Infantry Brigade is one of the four brigades under the 1st Infantry Division.
As the division commander, Barrientos’ areas of responsibility cover the provinces of Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Basilan and Zamboanga City.
