From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 14): Zambo Norte kidnappers charged; hostage freed

Criminal charges have been filed in court against eight people tagged as responsible for the kidnapping of a businessman’s son in Zamboanga del Norte.

Zamboanga del Norte police director Senior Superintendent James Mejia identified the accused as follows: Omar Wahab alias Binday; Jamaruddin Alih alias Boy Takas; Bader Salpuddin; Roger Kalas; and, four other John Does.

Mejia said they were charged for kidnapping and serious illegal detention with no bail recommended before a Court in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of Michael Kho.

Kho, 27, whose father is a businessman, was seized by the suspects in the evening of last April 1 while he was at the family-owned gasoline station in Barangay Poblacion, Siocon.

Mejia said that except for Wahab, all of the other suspects remain at large.

He said Wahab was arrested in a follow-up operation last April 4 in Barangay Malambunhangin, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.

He said that intelligence monitoring and manhunt operation continues in a bid to arrest the other suspects.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro disclosed that Kho was released around 6 a.m. Sunday in Barangay Labuan, west of this city.

Casimiro said that Kho was recovered by his relatives and was rushed to a hospital in this city for the treatment of a slight bullet wound in his chin.
