From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 4): De Leon named PA's 5th Infantry Division commander

Major Gen. Benito T. De Leon was appointed commander of the Isabela-based 5th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army effective Friday.

The turnover ceremony was held at Camp Melchor F. Dela Cruz in Upi, Gamu, Isabela and attended by Army commander Lt. Gen. Hernando DCA Iriberri.

De Leon replaced Brig. Gen. Ricardo B. Jalad, who retired from the service after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.

De Leon vowed to continue the “Bayanihan” Team operations in consonance with the Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) to maintain the momentum of the 5th Infantry Division efforts towards a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Northern Luzon.

The newly installed 5th Infantry Division commander is not new to Cagayan Valley because he hails from Tuguegarao City. He belongs to Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1981.

Before taking the helm of 5th Infantry Division, he was the commander of Training and Doctrine Command, Philippine Army.
