From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 30): 3 NPAs killed in Compostela Valley encounter

Troopers from the 25th Infantry Battalion killed three New People's Army (NPA) fighters during an encounter in Montevista, Compostela Valley Wednesday morning.

The encounter took place in Sitio Tibungco, Barangay Poblacion in Montevista town in an abandoned NPA base.

Capt. Ernest Carolina, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the clash took place around 9:30 a.m.

He added that their soldiers were conducting search and patrol operations in the above-mentioned area when they encountered 20 NPA fighters, triggering a 10-minute firefight.

Three of the rebels were immediately killed while an undetermined number wounded.

Carolina said that the remaining NPAs quickly retreated leaving behind three backpacks and one 9-mm pistol.

No casualty was sustained by government forces.
