Rebels urged to surrender arms, get cash reward

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 13): Rebels urged to surrender arms, get cash reward

New People's Army (NPA) fighters who have grown weary of the armed struggle are advised to lay down their arms and follow the path of peace, 3rd Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Aurelio Balalad said Thursday.

“Our persistent call for peace with the people shall continue. We can win the peace here in the region and armed struggle is not the solution. It is our firm resolve to send upon the NPA to listen to the call of the people for peace,” he added.

Baladad also reiterated his call for rebel fighters to lay down their arms and avail of the military's "Guns for Peace" program especially if they are desirous to rejoin mainstream society and live peacefully with their families.

"The AFP’s Guns for Peace Program offers members of the NPA to return to the mainstream society and lead productive lives with their loved ones," he added.

Cash incentives as high as P200,000 for light machine guns, P50,000 for Colt M-16 automatic rifle, P60,000 for M-14 rifle and P40,000 for M-203 grenade launchers.
