PA, NPA clash in 3 boundary barangays of Capiz-Iloilo

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 10): PA, NPA clash in 3 boundary barangays of Capiz-Iloilo

The Philippine Army (PA) and the New People’s Army (NPA) clashed Monday in three boundary barangays of Capiz and Iloilo provinces.

Major Rey Tiongson, PA 3rd ID spokesperson, said that a five-minute encounter occurred in Brgy. Daan Sur and Brgy. Abangay, Tapaz, Capiz Monday morning while the 61st Infantry Battalion based in Tapaz were conducting patrol as part of the intensified, focused security operation on governmental vital installations.

At 1:30 a.m., another encounter happened at Brgy. Agcalaga, Calinog, Iloilo while elements of the 61st Infantry Battalion were securing the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project.

Tiongson said that PA started last week an intensified security operation after receiving reports from the barangay residents about the NPA central front plan to conduct atrocious activities in line with their anniversary celebration on March 29.

The military spokesperson said that the government troops recovered upper part of the M16 rifle and empty shells. There was no casualty on the government side but that the PA believes there are wounded NPAs in the encounters.
