The 502nd Infantry Brigade of 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army (502ID-PA) based in Echague town has strengthened its disaster risk reduction operations through the army’s conceptualized “Oplan Lifeguard” to save lives, protect properties and minimize damages in disaster-affected areas.
502nd Army Infantry Brigade assistant commander Col. Reynaldo Labanen reported during the regional peace and order council held at Diffun Quirino, province at the Japi Travellers Hotel held over weekend that the Oplan Lifeguard objective is to conduct search and rescue operations to better respond to needy civilians who are in danger situations in times of calamities.
The 502nd infantry Brigade’s area of operations covers the provinces of Isabela and Cagayan.
Labanen said the army continuously conducting trainings on disaster risk reductions to its disaster unit soldiers through collaborative efforts with other stakeholders to effectively conduct search and rescue and even in relief operations.
He said that the military takes part in local disaster risk reduction and management council meetings from provincial, city, municipal and barangay as the military are attending meetings of the council in is area of operations as part of civil military operations.
The soldiers are also participating in tree planting activities of stakeholders, bloodletting activities and continuously conducting symposia to schools to enlighten the youth on security awareness.
Lananen said the army will continuously perform its mandate to secure and defend the country and the people.
