An Indian businessman kidnapped in Cotabato City late last month was released Friday evening, authorities said.

Mike Khemani was fetched by relatives and friends around 7 p.m. Friday from the boundary of Northern Kabuntalan and Datu Piang towns in Maguindanao province.

Cotabato City Mayor Japal Guiani Jr. said no ransom was paid for the trader’s release.

Khemani, who had visibly lost weight after 17 days in captivity, said he intended to continue doing business here and in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato.

The owner of the Sugni Superstore on Bonifacio Street was seized the evening of October 29 by gunmen who shot dead one of his bodyguards and wounded another.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to search for another Indian trader, 54-year old Krishian Singh Arora, who was abducted in Barangay Sarmiento, Parang, Maguindanao on Thursday.
