CAMP GEN. SIMEON A. OLA, Legazpi City – Four Philippine Army soldiers were wounded in a two-hour gun fight with New People’s Army rebels at the boundary of Barangay Mariawa, Legazpi City, and Sitio Talahib, Barangay Binisitahan, Daraga, Albay, Saturday morning.

A police report said the encounter occurred about 5:30 a.m., Saturday, while the government troopers were on a patrol operation in the area and they came across about 20 armed rebels, resulting in a two-hour exchange of gun fires.

The communist rebels immediately withdrew when a military helicopter came to reinforce the soldiers.

Army officials have not yet come out with additional information as of press time.
