Doctors assigned to the Eastern Mindanao Command revealed that landmine shrapnel that wounded seven soldiers in Sitio Lantawan, Barangay Napnapan, Pantukan, Compostela Valley Province Tuesday were laced with snake venom and human feces.

This was revealed by Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson Capt. Alberto Caber.

He said that these noxious substance were detected by Camp Panacan Station Hospital medical officer Lt. Victor Dato during examinations of the wounds sustained by the seven soldiers.

Caber added that the wounded soldiers were injected with "potent antibiotics" to counter the infections caused by these substance.

Caber said that infections caused by these items are deadly.

"These findings further aggravates the NPAs' violation of the provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL) signed by both the Government and National Democratic Front on March 16, 1998," he added.

Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III, Eastern Mindanao Command chief, called on all communities to unite in condemning the rebels continued use of landmine and poisonous substance in their projectiles and fragments.

“This is a gross violation of human rights. This type of warfare shows the true nature of the NPAs as they want to kill people slowly. I hope that no civilians will become victims of this foolishness," he stressed.
