Reds torch 6 trucks in North Cotabato

From InterAksyon (Aug 14): Reds torch 6 trucks in North Cotabato

Alleged New People’s Army guerillas attacked the compound of a banana plantation, torching six trucks before early Wednesday morning in Matalam town, North Cotabato.

1st Lieutenant Nasturallah Sema of the 57th Infantry Battalion said the guerrillas, belonged to belong to the NPA’s Front 72, burned three trucks owned by the GY Company and three others owned by the Sumifru Corporation.

The military linked the attack to the NPA’s failure to collect a so-called “revolutionary tax” from the company.

Senior Inspector Elias Colonia, Matalam police chief, said the 20 guerrillas raided the compound around 2:30 a.m., seizing the shotguns and communications equipment of the four security guards before burning the trucks.

  1. More economic terrorism from the nominally Maoist New People's Army. The collection of "revolutionary taxes" is nothing more than an old fashion "protection racket" of the kind that in the past was associated with the Italian Mafia. Pay up or we'll destroy your company's assets. The NPA have now become the New Hoods on the Block.

Oh, by the way, will the "pro-people" NPA make arrangements for new jobs for the truck drivers and mechanics that may be out of work due to the destruction of the GY Company trucks??
