From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 30): Gov't forces beat off rebel attack in Compostela Valley

Government forces deployed at the Magnaga Patrol Base, Barangay Magnaga, Panutukan town, Compostela Valley Province have successfully beaten off an attack conducted by 20 New People's Army (NPA) rebels Thursday night.

Capt. Raul Villegas, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the assault started around 8: 30 p.m.

He added the government forces consisted of a soldier and 14 militiamen.

Villegas stated that no one among the government side was wounded in the attack that lasted for three hours.

He added the rebels retreated with an undetermined number of casualties.

The 10th Infantry Division spokesperson also said that the rebels placed landmines at the foot of the Magnaga Bridge but removed these during their retreat.

Pursuit operations are still ongoing.
