From Malaya (Aug 2): Army major found dead in camp

AN Army major was found dead Wednesday night inside his quarters at the Special Forces Regiment headquarters in Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija.

The body of Maj. Eddie Valde, executive officer of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion in Cebu, was found by his roommate Capt. Joel David around 9:50 p.m., said Army spokesman Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang.

He said David, who rushed to the room after hearing a gunshot, found Valde in his bed.

“Major Valde was found with a gunshot wound on his chest, believed to be caused by an accidental fire from his service firearm, cal .45, which was found beside him,” said Cabangbang.

He could not immediately say if Valde died on the spot or in a hospital.

He said Valde served as civil military operations officer of the Special Operations Task Force Basilan a few years ago, when he (Cabangbang) was assistant chief of staff for civil military operations of the AFP Western Mindanao Command.
