From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 17): Two former rebels finally fall for heinous crimes in Aklan

After long years of hiding, two former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) finally fell into the hands of the authorities in two separate operations two days ago in the province of Aklan.

Police report reaching here has identified the fugitive rebels as Jerilyn Balidio, 50, and Blas Janova, 48, both residents of Barangay Buenafortuna, Nabas, Aklan.

The two former rebels who went into hiding for the past 23 years, have been facing criminal charges of multiple murder with robbery and double murder pending before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Kalibo, Aklan.

In a long distance interview, APPO’s Public Information Officer PO3 Nida Gregas said Balidio was arrested last Monday at a house in Capitol Site, Kalibo, Aklan, by the combined operatives of Aklan Police Provincial Office’s Regional Special Operation Group and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group along with elements of Kalibo Police Station while Janova was collared by a separate team at his hometown Nabas, Aklan.

Gregas said the two fugitives were arrested through the strength of an arrest warrant issued in 1990 yet by Hon. Judge Mario Guarino III of the RTC Branch 9 in Kalibo.

The court recommended no bail bond for their temporary liberties.

After their fall, the two former rebels were presented to the court which issued the warrant of arrest before they were ordered detained at the provincial prison facility of Aklan Rehabilitation Center in Nalook, Kalibo awaiting the scheduled arraignment of the heinous crimes they committed more than a couple of decades ago in the province of Aklan.
