Palace: No need to deploy peacekeepers in Mindanao

From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 25): Palace: No need to deploy peacekeepers in Mindanao

Malacañang on Thursday said there is no need to deploy peacekeeping forces in Mindanao.

This, after Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) leader Nur Misuari made an appeal to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to send peacekeepers in some areas in southern Philippines because of the presence of more military men there.

"Bakit? Ano'ng giyera? We're having a war against poverty and the war against poverty doesn't need peacekeepers," Lacierda told a media briefing.

The MNLF is a political organization of the Bangsamoro which once took up arms against the government.
