Military seizes 1,200 pieces of Lawaan lumber

From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 10): Military seizes 1,200 pieces of Lawaan lumber

Authorities seized 1,200 pieces of Lawaan lumber during an operation in Barangay Libertad, Kolambugan, Lanao Del Norte recently.

Belated reports from Capt. Jefferson Somera, 1st Infantry Division spokesperson, said the mission was carried out on July 7 with the assistance of the local police and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The operation was conducted after local residents reported the presence of loggers illegally cutting Lawaan trees in the nearby forest.

According to Col. Romulo Manuel, 35th Infantry Battalion commander, the confiscated Lawaan lumbers were on board a green "Amarak," a local cargo vehicle.

He said the driver abandoned the vehicle upon the arrival of government forces.

Brig. Gen. Felicito Virgilio Trinidad, Jr., 1st Infantry Division acting commander, lauded their field unit for the successful operation.

“This accomplishment manifests the growing concern and vigilance of the residents in Lanao Del Norte against illegal logging," he said.
