Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) linked with the Jamaah Islamiya (JI) in Western Mindanao is planning to stage bomb attacks in Zamboanga City, a top regional police official said.

But Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9) regional director Chief Supt. Juanito Vaño Jr. yesterday reiterated that the report is already being validated for confirmation.

Vaño told Zamboanga Today in his text message that the city is always a recipient of bomb threats but usual procedures has been done by local authorities.

Prior to the report, there were already previous report of same content where the Zamboanga City Police Office and intelligence units have doubled their target hardening operation to thwart the terrorists’ plan and their possible arrest.

Vaño appealed to the civilian community to report to the nearest police station if any suspicious persons or baggage seen or observe in their vicinity for the immediate response of the police personnel.

Meanwhile, the local police office remains on heightened alert in connection with the weeklong observance of the Holy Week and the upcoming May 13, 2013 election.
