From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 25): PRO2 on full alert against communist
terrorists
All police unit commanders in Cagayan Valley Region were directed to stay
vigilant to counter any possible diversionary attack of communist terrorists
(CTs).
The order was made after Thursday's clash between government troops and
communist insurgents in Gattaran, Cagayan.
Police Regional Office 2 (PRO-Cagayan Valley) regional director Lawyer
Rodrigo Purisima De Gracia said the encounter took place in Sitio Alindaya,
Barangay Elizaga, Gattaran, Cagayan Thursday morning wherein a Platoon of Alpha
Company, 17th IB, Philippine Army (PA) was attacked by more or less 30 fully
armed CTs that resulted in the undetermined number of casualties on the enemy
side and wounding of four government soldiers. The joint forces of the PNP and PA are now conducting offensive operation in
the province of Cagayan to neutralize the CTs.
Intelligence report obtained from Barangay Information Networks (BIN’s) shows
that the communist groupo was sighted in Barangay Bugnay, Tuao and Barangay
Balanni, Sto. Nino, all in Cagayan province.
The 1st Maneuver Platoon of Cagayan Provincial Public Safety Company led by
PInsp Antonio Palattao is still conducting clearing operation within the
vicinity of Bagasao, Gattaran, Cagayan.
