Navy fast attack craft arrives in Legazpi naval station

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 25): Navy fast attack craft arrives in Legazpi naval station

The Philippine Navy fast attack craft BRP Bienvinido Salting (PG112) has arrived at the Naval Forces for Southern Luzon (NAVFORSOL) station in Barangay Rawis in this city Friday to boost maritime security within the territorial waters of the Bicol Region. The PG112, led by Lt. Commander Nerelito Martinez, its acting commanding officer, will be incorporated in the newly reorganized task forces of NAVFOSOL for its enhanced operational capability and preparedness.

Martinez is the Philippine Fleet acting chief of staff for plans and programs. He was welcomed by Commodore Manuel Natalio, NAVFORSOL commander, in a simple ceremony attended by Albay Gov. Joey Salceda and officials from the Office of the Civil Defense, other branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other government agencies.

The craft is a Tomas Batillo class which arrived in the country from South Korea in August 1995 and commissioned to the Philippine Navy on May 22, 1996. It underwent refurbishing and updating works but remained sporting its original weapons fit-out. It is the class’ only ship using the twin Emerlec 30mm guns and does not have the provisions for Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat.
