Jose Maria Sison is the founder and ideological guru of the Communist Party of the Philippines. Many observers believe that Sison continues to function as the chairman-in exile of the CPP. He denies this and asserts that he is just a "political consultant" for the National Democratic Front Philippines, the political wing of the CPP. As noted in this statement, he also serves as the chairman of the International League of People's Struggles, an organization founded by Sison to bring together Maoist and other anti-Imperialist organizations under a single umbrella organization. Many of the Philippine -based CPP front organizations are members of the ILPS.
