An Army soldier was injured in an encounter between government forces and members of the New People's Army (NPA) in a hinterland barangay in Tapaz, Capiz. In an interview over Bombo Radyo Iloilo, 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), Philippine Army spokesperson Maj. Gil Ileto said the encounter happened around 8:30 a.m. in Barangay Acuna, Tapaz town. The 3ID spokesman, however, declined to give further details on how the encounter transpired. Ileto said the name of the wounded soldier is being withheld pending proper notification of his family. Meanwhile, soldiers of the 3ID operating in Tapaz, Capiz immediately conducted hot pursuit operation against the fleeing rebels after the reported exchange of gun fires that ensued between the Army soldiers and the rebels. The 3ID has its headquarters in Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz. The fresh armed skirmish came before the usual holiday truce could be observed between the two warring groups during the Yuletide season.
