Two Philippine military dogs and 66 Army soldiers in Negros and Bohol were recognized on Tuesday by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Visayas Command (VISCOM), conferring them medals in separate awarding rites held in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, and Murcia in Negros Occidental.
Lt. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, VISCOM chief, bestowed the ‘Working Dog Achievement Medals’ to Mugie and Puti, in recognition of their contributions to the successful encounters of 11th Infantry Battalion with rebel remnants in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental, on August 26.
The encounter led to the death and recovery of the cadaver of a slain rebel and the seizure of war materials.
Arevalo also conferred the Gold Cross Medal to 37 Army soldiers, as well as two CAFGUs, for their gallantry in action during encounters with the CPP-NPA in Negros and Bohol islands.
Furthermore, a total of 28 Army soldiers comprising of nine military officers and 19 Enlisted Personnel were awarded with Silver Cross Medal (SCM) for their distinguished achievement and heroism in the conduct of special operations against the NPA remnants in Regions 6 and 7.
In a statement, Lt Gen Arevalo emphasized “Conferring awards to our soldiers is our way of keeping them highly motivated and focused to our campaign. This is to assure them that their efforts and sacrifices in the fight against the CPP-NPA are properly recognized.”
In another statement, Maj. Gen. Marion Sison, 3ID commander, said conferment of medals to deserving Army soldiers “are a testament to your unwavering commitment to fostering peace and progress in Western and Central Visayas.”
Sison also thanked Lt. Gen Arevalo for acknowledging the unrelenting dedication of 3ID in their relentless anti-insurgency operations in Western and Central Visayas.*
