ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat – Police operatives arrested a wanted Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) member and five communist rebels in separate law enforcement operations in Sultan Kudarat province on Thursday.
In a statement Friday, Col. Christopher Bermudez, Sultan Kudarat provincial police director, identified the arrested MILF member as Bassir Naga, 41, of Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao del Sur.
He is the seventh most wanted person of Police Regional Office-Soccsksargen Region,” Bermudez said of Naga, a tricycle driver, who was nabbed in Barangay Kalawag 2 here at 2 p.m.
Naga is currently facing double murder and multiple attempted murder charges before the local courts in the province, he added.
Naga is also allegedly linked to several attacks against chairperson Norhato Sanday of Barangay Udtong, Lambayong.
Sanday is the Association of Barangay Councils president of Lambayong and sits as an ex-officio member of the town council.
Meanwhile, Bermudez also bared the arrest of a family of five who are all alleged members of the communist New Peoples’ Army in Sitio Bagang-Bagang, Barangay Lagubang, Sen. Ninoy Aquino town in Sultan Kudarat at about 3 p.m. Thursday.
They are high-profile personalities linked to the NPA group operating in the area,” Bermudez saidentified the arrested rebels as Pinge, 37; Hali, 65; Henry Ugis, 25; Antis Ugis, 18; and Plag Ugis, 37; all surnamed Agsem and active members of NPA Daguma Command, FarSouth Mindanao Region.
They were arrested based on warrants of arrest for the crime of murder, attempted murder, and violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Berrmudez said the five insurgents were primary suspects in the murder of Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit members Richard Panganuron, Nonoy Kalay Lapi, and Egme Salaman Watamama in the same town earlier this year.
They are now detained at the Sen. Ninoy Aquino police lock-up cell under tight watch by soldiers and police personnel.
