CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Six members of a militant group in Nueva Ecija formally cut ties with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) during a ceremony in Barangay Calabasa, Gabaldon town on Monday.

In his report on Tuesday, Col. Richard Caballero, Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (NEPPO) director, said the six CPP-NPA supporters were members of the Alyansa ng Mamamayang Nagkakaisa (ALMANA).

He said the militants' formal withdrawal of support was a result of the Special Intelligence Operations by personnel of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, Provincial Intelligence Unit, local police, Philippine Army, and other law enforcement units.

He said the CPP-NPA and its supporters continue to suffer losses as a result of the government's relentless anti-insurgency campaign.

“It was the product of the continuous joint efforts of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict,” he said in a statement.

He said the six ALMANA members, who are mostly unemployed, are now undergoing debriefing and have received food packs as government assistance.

They may also avail of other assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, he added.

“This undertaking would certainly neglect the influence and control of the CPP-NPA over their remaining supporters, and will create a perfect time for the other leftists to return to the government’s side,” Caballero said.
