BUTUAN CITY – Police arrested a squad leader of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) with a standing arrest warrant in Agusan del Sur province, an official said Friday.
Brig. Gen. Pablo Labra II ,Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) director, said Arnold Aga Maravilla was arrested Thursday in Barangay Sta. Emelia, Veruela town.
In a statement, Labra described Maravilla, 34, as the squad leader of NPA Segunda Sentro De Grabidad Platoon of Guerrilla Front 3, North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).
“Maravilla has a standing arrest warrant for murder and multiple attempted murder charges issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 6 in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur on Aug. 28, 2015,” Labra said.
Labra is also listed as a priority target by the police since 2014.
PRO-13 reports revealed that Maravilla was among the NPA insurgents involved in a clash with forces of the Army’s 26th Infantry Battalion in Loreto, Agusan del Sur, on Aug. 8, 2013 that resulted in the death of a government trooper and the wounding of four others.
“The arrest of the suspect after years of hiding proves that time is not a hindrance in giving justice to the victims of (NPA) heinous crimes,” Labra said.
Meanwhile, Labra also reported the surrender of two other NPA rebels on Wednesday.
He identified the surrenderers only as Jan, 24, of Lianga, Surigao del Sur and a member of the NPA Guerilla Front 16A, NEMRC; and Sam, 22, a Militia ng Bayan member from Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.
