Acting 6ID commander named

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has identified Brig. Gen. Eduardo Gubat as the acting commander of the Philippine Army’s (PA) 6th Infantry Division based at Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Gubat replaced Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy who retired from the military service on Saturday, May 21.

Prior to the designation, Gubat served as the commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade under the 6ID.

He also held other key leadership posts including as commander of the Task Force GenSan in General Santos City; and deputy commander of the 1002nd Infantry Brigade under the 10th Infantry Division (10ID).

Gubat is a product of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Sambisig” Class of 1991.

Meanwhile, Uy officially bowed out of service after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56 years old. He served for 37 years in the military profession.

The joint retirement and change of command ceremony was presided by Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. at Camp Siongco.

In his speech, Brawner thanked Uy for his “dedicated and outstanding service to the Philippine Army and the Filipino people.”

Among the significant accomplishments of the 6ID under Uy’s leadership was the neutralization of Asim Karinda alias Abu Azim, the newly appointed “emir” of the Islamic State (IS)-linked Daulah Islamiyah, in December 2021.

Aside from being the 6ID commander, Uy also served as the internal auditor and assistant chief of staff for intelligence of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP); commander of Joint Task Force Zamboanga; and assistant division commander of 6ID.

Uy is a member of the PMA “Makatao” Class of 1989.
