Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – April 21, 2022

As part of the 3rd phase of decommissioning process, 69 assorted firearms of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) were consolidated in the province of Sulu.

According to Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, Commander of Joint Task Force Sulu, the consolidation was made possible through the coordination of the 11th Infantry Division with the MILF counterparts. The activity was held at the 11ID headquarters at Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista, Busbus, Jolo, Sulu Wednesday, April 20. The firearms will be transported to Zamboanga City on Friday (April 22).

Consolidated firearms include 42 M16 rifles, five M14 rifles, 10 Garand rifles, two M79 rifles, four BARs, five Sniper rifles, and one Carbine rifle.

The third phase of the decommissioning process began last November 2021. In this phase, the former members of the MILF will have to hand over their firearms for safekeeping and deactivation. The International Decommissioning Body (IDB) will safely keep the firearms while other government agencies will attend to the reintegration of the former combatants.

“This is a good development on our peace accord with the MILF. The Western Mindanao Command will always give our 100% support to the fulfillment of the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro,” Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command said.
