Lieutenant Colonel William Pesase Jr. is the new commander of the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB).

A Change of Command Ceremony was held on Feb. 16 in Barangay Libas, Isabela, Negros Occidental presided by Major General Benedict Arevalo, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID).

Pesase replaced Lieutenant Colonel Melvin Flores. He had served as Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel of the 3ID in Camp Peralta, Jamindan, Capiz.

Flores, who had served the 62IB in Central Negros for nearly two years, was reassigned to the Army’s higher headquarters, according to the Civil Military Operations (CMO) of the 62IB.

A significant accomplishment of Flores in the 62IB was the clearing of 37 New People’s Army-affected barangays through Community Support Program (CSP) operations.

According to the CMO, “For his (Flores) dynamic leadership, 62IB was adjudged as 3ID’s ‘best battalion’ for 2021 in the whole Western and Central Visayas Region.”

“I’m confident and consistent that Pesase will also be excellent in his job as new battalion commander of the 62IB,” said Arevalo.

He then reminded Philippine Army troops: “We should not also forget our mantra: ‘Loved by the People, Feared by the Enemy’. If you are feared by the enemy and you are able to hit them, we will more be loved by the people.”

The Change of Command Ceremony was witnessed by Brigadier General Inocencio Pasaporte, commander, 303rd Infantry Brigade, based in Negros Island; chiefs of police of stations in central Negros; Police Colonel Leo Pamittan, Negros Occidental police director; mayors Irene Montilla of Isabela and Alme Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan of La Castellana, Negros Occidental; military dependents, friends, and stakeholders of the 62IB.
