8 former rebels receive P250K cash assistance in Zambo Norte

DIPOLOG, Zamboanga del Norte, June 3 (PIA) - Some eight former rebels (FRs) received cash assistance totalling to P250,000 here on Tuesday morning, June 1.

A mother and daughter FRs, formerly known in the Communist Terrorist Group as alias Mariz and Aika, each received P15,000 immediate cash assistance and P50,000 livelihood assistance from Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).



"Dako akong kalipay sa hinabang na gihatag sa gobyerno para sa amo nga mga kanhing NPA (I am very happy to receive assistance from the government as former rebels)," said Mariz, who have been in the armed struggle for 20 years together with her husband and three children.

Meanwhile, six newly surfaced Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) were also presented to E-CLIP Committe Chairman and Zamboanga del Norte Governor Roberto Uy, who handed-over PhP20,000 financial assistance from the Provincial Government's Office.

"These former rebels are the most recent among the many other former Communist NPA Terrorists who have decided to take the path to peace and progress with the government," said Brigadier General Leonel Nicolas, commander of the 102nd Infantry Brigade.

"Rest assured that the 102nd Infantry Brigade will remain steadfast in rescuing other victims of deception and lies by the Communist Terrorist Group," he added.

The six others will also be processed for E-CLIP program which include the P65,000 cash and livelihood assistance as well as the firearm remuneration for the firearms that they have surrendered to the government.

They will also undergo psychosocial recovery to be conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. (EDT/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte/with reports from 102nd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army)
