Four suspected Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) combatants were wounded and arrested following a shootout with government troopers near a checkpoint in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao Tuesday.
Lt. Col. Anhouvic Atilano, spokesperson of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, identified the arrested individuals as Rahib Lumenda Esmail, Prati Kuludan, Arsad Ukom Utto and Aliofmer Talimbu -- all alleged members of the BIFF operating in the area.
Atilano said the suspects were on board a multi-cab vehicle when they sped past a joint police-Army checkpoint in Barangay Timbangan of the town around 1:30 p.m. prompting the troopers to give chase.
“A shootout ensued, wounding the four suspects in the process,” Atilano said, adding the suspects yielded a Thompson machine gun, a .45-caliber pistol and a rifle grenade ammunition.
All suspects are currently admitted at a local hospital under close guard by Shariff Aguak police personnel, the Army official said. (
