From the Philippine Information Agency (May 31, 2020): 2 NPA rebels in Basey return to the folds of the law (By PIA-8)
TACLOBAN CITY, May 31 (PIA) -- Two NPA members from Basey, Samar recently, voluntarily surrendered to the 63rd Infantry Battalion of the 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.
The 63IB initiated the peace talks that led to the laying down of arms of @Del, a former member of FGU, FC-SS2, SRC SESAME.
On May 19, 2020, @Del surrendered at the 63IB Headquarters in Brgy. New San Agustin, Basey, Samar.
The former rebels opted to support government programs due to life hardships and realization of their illegal exploitation and extortion activities to the locals.
One homemade shotgun and a caliber .22 pistol was turned over to LTC Edgar Allan Orbito, the commanding officer of the 63IB.
Moreover, a former political officer of the same guerilla front, identified as @David also returned to the folds of the law after a series of interventions.
Lt Col. Orbito said the two NPA-deceived locals will be interviewed and assisted for them to avail of the government programs like E-CLIP and livelihood assistance as they undergo community reintegration.
E-CLIP is a government program that aims to help the rebel members of CPP-NPA-NDF and Militia ng Bayan to restore their allegiance to the Philippine government.
Through this program, they can be reintegrated back to the community, be with their families, and start over with their new, normal lives.
Orbito is hopeful that more members of this group realize that they are fighting for a lost cause. He called on those remaining members to avail of the E-CLIP and come back to their families to live a free and peaceful life away from violence.
Meanwhile, the two former rebels called on their active comrades and fellows to lay down their arms to support government programs and initiatives leading to a peaceful and safe communities in Basey, Samar. (PIA-8)
