DAVAO CITY Feb. 19 (PIA)- The military has confirmed an ongoing encounter between government troops and the lawless elements of the New People’s Army in Impasugong, Bukidnon since yesterday morning.

Speaking at the AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing, Lt. Colonel Ezra Balagtey, G-7 of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) said the military operation was prompted by the reported consolidation of rebel forces in Bukidnon.

“The 403rd Infantry Brigade conducted a focused military operation which led to an encounter in the area", he said.

Balagtey said the airstrikes being conducted against the rebels were aimed towards providing effective cover and firepower support to the operating troops.

At the same press briefing, Police Major Eudisan Goltiano, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office XI called on the relatives of two cadavers recovered by the police in Agusan del Sur to coordinate with the Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Office for the proper burial.

The bodies of Ka Al of Quezon, Bukidnon and Ka Dope of Cagayan de Oro City were reported to have been killed an encounter with the soldiers in 2017.

Goltiano said the cadavers were retrieved as the police recovered several war materiel surrendered by alias Paopao or Tiger, political instructor of the front committee 88 in Barangay Esperanza in Agusan del Sur.

The recovered war material was composed of an M-14 Armalite Rifle, Garand Rifle, one anti-personnel mine, three M-14 magazines and several bullets.

She said the PRO XI wishes to locate the family of the dead rebels and to help them identify their loved ones. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
