Over 66,000 individuals in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) have been displaced as of end May due to various reasons, including armed conflicts, the regional government said.
The humanitarian situation in the Bangsamoro region was discussed during the meeting of the members of the Mindanao Humanitarian Team (MHT) convened by the Humanitarian Emergency Action Response Team (HEART) Thursday, June 13. Atty. Raisa Jajurie, social services minister, presided the meeting.
A report from the protection working group, led by the region’s Ministry of Social Services and co-lead by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), showed that a total of 66,298 persons were displaced in the entire region this year, as of May 31.
“The displacements were caused by armed conflicts, clan feuds, crimes, and violence,” the Bangsamoro government said.
It said the teams and their other partners, including the Office of the Chief Minister, have been providing cash assistance, food packs, sacks of rice, trays of eggs, canned goods, hygiene kits, and others to the displaced residents.
Jajurie said the BARMM-HEART and MHT will have their next meeting on July 18 at the province of Lanao del Sur to have a closer coordination with the affected communities.
