From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 9, 2019): 2 hurt in Cotabato grenade attack
COTABATO CITY – A grenade lobbed by two motorcycle-riding men exploded inside a residential compound in Barangay Rosary Heights 10 on Monday night and injured a former overseas Filipino worker, police said.
Col. Michael Lebanan, city police director, said the motorcycle-riding suspects arrived at 7 p.m. along the Malagapas Phase 2 housing project in this city and one of them tossed a hand grenade towards the house of a certain Hasan Silongan Zaman.
“Zaman was hit by shrapnel in his lower lips but is now safe,” Lebanan told reporters in an interview Tuesday.
Some residents witnessed the grenade-throwing incident and blocked the fleeing attackers.
One of the villagers hit the motorbike driver with a stone but his companion pulled a .45-caliber pistol and shot Mohammad Ampatuan, one of the responders. “The grenade-throwers fled leaving behind their motorcycle,” Lebanan said, adding that they already identified the perpetrators based on documents retrieved from the vehicle.
He said the motive of the attack was personal grudge based on the account given by Zaman.
Both Zaman and Ampatuan are currently confined at a government hospital here.
