CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Camarines Sur – A suspected New People’s Army (NPA) was killed while one soldier was wounded in a two-hour encounter in Barangay Gangao, Baleno town in Masbate province on Satur­day morning.

Captain Joash Pramis, spokesperson of 9th Infantry Division (9ID) based in Pili, Camarines Sur told the Manila Bulletin that the firefight started around 9:40 a.m. and lasted about 12 noon that resulted in the killing of still unidentified suspected NPA rebel, wounding of 1 soldier and recovery of firearms, ammunitions, and explosives.

Pramis said that combined elements of 2nd Infantry Battalion and 1st Masbate Mobile Force Company were conducting combat operation in response to reports of NPA’s presence in Brgy. Gangao, when they encountered undetermined number of NPA rebels.

Chief Inspector Malu Calubaquib, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) spokesperson said at least 30 NPAs led by certain Rolidel Tugbo y Salcedo, alyas Nonoy, Tugbo or Ka Bungkig of KP4-Masbate, Larangan 1 was encoun­tered by troops of PNP and Philippine Army while conducting combat operations in line with 1st MPMFC Oplan 08/2019 “Sugod.”
